Autumn Term - Morriston & Me/ Me and My Community

Morriston & Me

The first two weeks of each academic year the whole school engage in a mini topic called 'Morriston & Me.' Each year group has a theme for the topic. Our theme is 'all about me' and 'my school.' During the first week the children will learn their names, their friends names, how old they are and what they like. The children will practise responding to their name, mark making/overwriting their names and saying their names if possible. The children will have opportunities to identify themselves during our digital check in each day and to look at themselves in the mirror when creating self portraits. The children will learn their ages during number songs and practise mark making/overwriting their age. We will work on a 'all about me board' to display the children's pictures, age and their 'likes.'

During week two we will look at our school environment, having a tour of the school - taking pictures along the way to make a 'my school' booklet. We will 'build' the school outside using foam bricks and we will engage in creative activities to print with lego to make a picture of our school.

Me and My Community

In the Me and My Community project, your child will learn about the school community and building friendships. They will explore the school grounds and find out about all the people in school who are there to help them. They will explore how they are special and unique and how everyone’s family is different. They will take part in practical activities to support them to build new friendships and explore what makes a good friend. They will also find out about people in the community who help us, including doctors, nurses, and the emergency services.
