STF2 2019 - 2020

AUTUMN 2019

Street Detectives

Where should we go? Up to the local shops or down to the playing fields? Let's learn about our local community, looking at houses old and new and finding out how our own streets have changed since our mums and dads were young.

We will make maps and plans of the streets around us, planning our routes. What can we see? What can we find? Whereabouts do we live?

Find out how to write instructions, directions, adverts and learn rhymes all about our community, from different times.

Ready to roll street detectives? Get your clipboards and cameras... It's time to start investigating!

SUMMER 2020

The Light bulb

Our new topic for this half term is the ‘light bulb’.  This term we will be investigating many things to do with Light.  We will talk to the children about their ideas of where light comes from.  What do we see in the daytime and night-time?   We will look at different light sources.  We will look at day and night time routines.  We will investigate different animals that come out in the dark.   We will learn about the moon and the stars and make our own star constellations.    We will be reading a range of stories, for example,  Peace at Last, Laura’s Star, How to catch a Star, The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch and The Owl that is Afraid of the Dark. We will be doing many science experiments including making and discovering shadows and rainbow.   We will be experimenting with paint and  we will try to make new colours, looking at dark and light shades.
