Autumn Term - Morriston & Me/Me and My Community

Morriston & Me

During the first two weeks of the academic year, the whole school engages in a topic - Morriston & Me. Each class is given a topic area which includes their school, shops in the local area, recreation in the local area etc. Our given topic is 'our school.' During these two weeks it gives us an opportunity to learn as much as possible about our new children in class - Who is in their family?, Do they have any pets?, What are their hobbies?, What are their favourite foods and so on. It also gives an opportunity for the children to learn more about the members of staff in their class. We then go on to look at the school and we enjoy a learning walk around the school - going into other classes to met the staff and children, going into different areas of the school, yards and garden. The children are provided with opportunities to take photographs around the school and sketch the school building. If you would like to help make this topic a success we ask for you to send in photos (through class dojo) to help share information e.g. a picture of the child's house, a family photo, pets photo, their favourite toy and so on. Thank you!

Me and My Community

After our initial topic 'Morriston and Me,' we then move on to our Autumn Term Topic - 'Me and My Community.'

In the Me and My Community project, your child will learn about the school community and building friendships. They will explore the school grounds and find out about all the people in school who are there to help them. They will explore how they are special and unique and how everyone’s family is different. They will take part in practical activities to support them to build new friendships and explore what makes a good friend. They will also find out about people in the community who help us, including doctors, nurses, and the emergency services.
