Purim is an entertaining Jewish holiday which celebrates freedom.
The Purim is told in the book of Esther. A Jewish girl called Esther becomes Queen to King Xerxes of Persia. By becoming Queen, she prevents the death of all the Jews in Persia by persuading the King not to kill them. Purim remembers Esther for her courage, as she saved lots of people.
There are a lot of ways which Purim is celebrated. Traditionally, the story of Esther is read out in the synagogue which is usually a loud and entertaining event where people wear their best clothes, colouring costumes or masks. It is also tradition to hold a carnival-like celebration which involves performances, beauty contests and dressing up.
