'To be the best you can be' - Article 29

Roses and Royals

During this topic we'll be travelling back to Tudor times… Children will discover who the Tudors were and how they lived.

Pupils will research Tudor life, study the Tudor family tree and find out about Henry VII, the first Tudor king, who fought for the crown against Richard III.

Pupils will create fact files, posters, chants, rhymes and re-enact the Battle of Bosworth taking on the roles of Tudor royalty as they decipher riddles and dance the branle.

Using a map of the United Kingdom, pupils will plot Henry VII’s journey from Milford Haven, Wales to Bosworth Field, England, estimating and calculating the distance travelled.

Pupils will create their own Tudor rose printing block and explore the lines of symmetry in the original York and Lancaster roses. Pupils will also learn about the lives of the sons of Henry VII, Arthur and Henry VIII, who was famous for his love of food, fighting and, of course, wives.

At the end of the project, pupils will share their work and compare the reigns of the Tudor queens, Mary and Elizabeth, to their male predecessors.
