  • European Day of Languages

    Fri 24 Sep 2021

On Monday, September 27th we will be celebrating European Languages Day. It is a chance to showcase the many different languages and cultures that we have in Morriston Primary School.

If your child would like to come to school dressed in their traditional costumes or bring items in to show their class then they would be most welcome.

  • Return to school reminder dates

    Wed 01 Sep 2021

    Dear parents, carers and guardians,

I hope you have all had a restful summer holiday. Just a reminder that the return to school date for the pupils is Monday 6th September, as the staff have training days prior to this.

Can I ask that children return to school in school uniform if possible. The school gates will open at 8.45am for an 8.50am start. If you need to drop children off earlier, they would need to attend breakfast club which starts at 8.00am and costs 50p per day.

Morning Nursery finishes at 11.30am, the Foundation Phase pupils finish at 3.10pm and Key Stage 2 pupils finish at 3.15pm.

I will share further updates with you over the next few days.

We are looking forward to seeing you all.

    Best wishes
    Mrs Thomas

  • Swansea’s Children and Young People’s Rights Scheme

    Fri 16 Jul 2021

The consultation on Swansea’s Children and Young People’s Rights Scheme is live (links and information below).

Have your say: Consultation on Swansea's draft Children and Young People's Rights Scheme 2021-24.

Children's Rights and how children and young people have their voices heard is very important to Swansea Council. We want to make sure children's rights and voice are at the centre of our work, considering them in everything we do. This is very important to us.

'Doing it the Rights Way' is a document that sets out a plan to help Swansea Council to do this.

It says that we can make sure children can access their rights by:

    ·        Encouraging adults to listen to your ideas when decisions are being made that affect children.

    ·        Making sure adults and children know about rights and how to make sure children can enjoy their rights.

    ·        Making sure people can let us know what we are doing well, and where we can improve our services.

    ·        Clearly showing people how putting children's rights at the centre of our work, improves things for children.

This survey tells you how we plan to work on Children's Rights in Swansea in the future, and is open to anyone who wishes to give us their views on it. This includes school staff.

We have split work into five areas, and we need you to tell us if you agree or disagree with the work we plan to do. If there is something we haven't thought of, please also let us know, your opinion is very important.

The survey is available in English, Welsh, Easy Read and  Widgit symbol, and versions are available for children, young people and adults at:

    https://www.swansea.gov.uk/childrensrightsschemeconsultation

A Symbol version of the Children’s Rights Scheme Consultation is now available via this link:

    https://transfers.widgit.com/Tom/swansea_council_childrens_rights_survey_v2.pdf.

This is also available on the consultation webpage too.

If you require support to complete this survey or would like to receive a copy in an alternative version, please let us know at uncrc@swansea.gov.uk

    Closing date 31 July 2021.

  • School uniform grant update 13.7.21

    Tue 13 Jul 2021

    Dear parents, carers and guardians,

Please see below a message from the Local Authority for you:

The Welsh Government has just announced their school uniform grant for the coming school year.  The grant is available for children who are currently entitled to free school meals* and going into one of the following year groups in September 2021:

    Reception, Year 1, Year 3, Year 5, Year 7, Year 8, Year 9, Year 10, Year 11**

The grant is for £200 for Year 7 and £125 for all other year groups. The money should be spent on school uniform, coat, shoes, sports kit etc. and receipts should be kept until August 2022 for spot checks on spend.  The grant can also be used to assist with purchasing laptops or tablets to help children when learning from home; however we advise families to contact their child’s school/setting to discuss loaning equipment before purchasing any equipment.

Parents of free school meal children will need to log back into their Swansea Account (where they applied for free school meal payments during Covid) to apply for the funding*** https://account.swansea.gov.uk/

Applications can be made from 13 July 2021 and take up to 7 days to process.

*note that not all children in receipt of free school meals are entitled to the uniform grant.  Some children have their meal protected by the Welsh Government’s transitional protection scheme, as their income would be above the new free school meal threshold applied to Universal Credit.  You can find more information here www.swansea.gov.uk/freeschoolmeals

**all Looked After Children (LAC) are entitled to the grant from Reception to Year 11

***asylum seekers will automatically get the money added to their Home Office ASPEN card

If you need assistance please contact schooluniformgrant@swansea.gov.uk or phone 01792 636611.

  • School uniform grant update

    Fri 18 Jun 2021

    Dear parents, carers and guardians,

I hope you are all keeping well. This is just a reminder that this academic year’s school uniform grant must be claimed by 30 June 2021.  Details can be found here:

    https://www.swansea.gov.uk/schooluniformgrant

The Welsh Government still haven’t confirmed which year groups will be eligible for the coming academic year.  We will advise you in the coming weeks about when and how they can apply and which year groups will be eligible.  The grant is only available to children who are currently eligible for FSM and not those who are only transitionally protected.

    Kind regards
    Mrs Thomas

  • Easter updates

    Fri 19 Mar 2021

    Dear parents, carers and guardians,

A few parents have asked me what we are doing for Easter this year. Unfortunately at the moment we are not allowed to hold an Easter bonnet parade but if you would like your children to come to school in their own clothes, an Easter outfit or an Easter bonnet on our last day of the spring term, next Thursday 25th March 2021, you are more than welcome.

Also just to remind you all we break up for the Easter holidays next Thursday 25th March 2021. The staff have First Aid training next Friday, so school will be closed to pupils on Friday 26th March 2021. We start back in school on Monday 12th April 2021.

    Uniform Grant

    Dear parents, carers and guardians,

The Welsh Government has announced that the uniform grant will be available for additional year groups between now and 30 June 2021.

Please note that uniform grant is not for all FSM children, as those who are only Transitionally Protected are not eligible to apply (as this protection is for a free meal only). The existing year groups that can apply for the uniform grant are current Reception, Year 3, Year 7 and Year 10.

The new year groups that can now apply are current Year 1, Year 5, Year 8, Year 9 and Year 11. All grants are for £125 except for Year 7 which is £200.  The extended grant can be spent on IT equipment such as a laptop as well as uniform.

All LAC learners can apply, in any year from Reception to Year 11.

The Welsh Government has advised that the applications for the next academic year will go live on 15 July. As it stands, the grant will revert to only covering those going into R, Y3, Y7 and Y10 in September.

The school uniform grant applications are about to go live.  The Local Authority have indicated that they will send an email to parents who are eligible and have a verified email address on the App.  They will arrange to make payments for asylum seekers via the Home Office and their Aspen Card.

This link gives details of the grant:

    https://gov.wales/pupil-development-grant-access

and eligible parents can apply here:

    https://account.swansea.gov.uk/

Please note that you won’t be able to access the application on that link if you are not eligible or if your email address has not been verified by the school.

    Best wishes,

    Mrs Thomas
